I love Autumn, but I don’t love how dry it makes my skin. I have dry skin any time of the year, but during the cold weather it’s almost ten times worse. It becomes a daily mission to restore some moisture to my face, I remind myself of the episode of Spongebob where he’s at Sandy’s place without a water helmet on. I’ll admit, my skincare routine probably does need a little bit of tweaking, but I’m going to share with you what I’m currently doing. I’m in no way a skincare expert so maybe there’s something I’m doing that’s actually to the detriment of my skin – so if any of you can help, let me know!
So first of all I remove any makeup with my Makeup Eraser, I posted about it here , I like to use this not to cleanse my skin, but to make sure it’s free of any product before I go in to wash it. Next I use my Neutrogena Visibly Clear Face Wash. Now this is a little tip I picked up from Lisa Eldrige, she suggests washing your face twice. Once to remove any residual product, and then again to thoroughly cleanse the skin. It makes sense to me, so this is what I do, although I’m not sure if maybe this is adding to the dry skin issue?
After my skin is fully cleansed, I like to go in with a face and lip scrub. I don’t do this every day, but I find I need to do it once or twice a week to keep gross flakes at bay. The face scrub that I’ve been using for really the last year or so now is the Botanics All Bright Purifying Face Scrub. This is only £3.99 and works amazingly for me, it isn’t too harsh but it definitely works wonders. I recently used up another tube of this, so I need to buy another as my skin is definitely due a good scrub soon. The lip scrub I use is the Mint Julips from LUSH. Got to say, I’m not sure if this is more of a gimmicky product as I don’t really notice a huge difference when using it. Having said that, my lips haven’t been visibly dry for a while now so we’ll see how it copes over the following cold months.
I’m really not a face mask girl, I’ve tried a few but they all seem to make me have a nasty reaction and don’t seem to do a great deal for my skin so I do tend to skip this step. I usually go straight in with my L’Oreal Paris Triple Active Nourish moisturiser. This stuff works wonders on my skin, it instantly takes away the tight dry feeling and leaves my face feeling so soft. It’s totally affordable too so this is just a life saver for me. For my lips I use my trusty Aquaphor Lip Repair, again this stuff is some kind of magic I swear. Your lips could practically be hanging off and this stuff would fix them for you, K it’s maybe not that great but you get my drift – this stuff is good.
My final step, and it’s a newbie! Is applying Castor Oil to my lashes. I use a clean eyeliner brush just to coat my upper lashes with this, and also the base of them. I’m trying it out as a natural method to make my lashes grow, so keep your eyes peeled for the results of that.
So that’s my skincare routine, not necessarily the most luxurious or high end but this is what I do! Can any of you recommend a skincare product that will change my life and dry skin?! Please please let me know!
